UMAMI Wine
Case Study: Umami Wine Lebanon
Project Overview
NOBRAND Agency was selected to develop the complete visual identity and wine bottle designs for Umami Wine, an emerging Lebanese label set to redefine the local wine landscape. The project required the creation of a brand that felt both contemporary and deeply rooted in Lebanon’s rich winemaking heritage. From the logo to the intricate details of the bottle design, every element needed to capture a sense of refined taste and understated luxury.
Design Concept and Execution
The vision for Umami Wine was to evoke the elusive fifth taste — umami — through a brand experience that feels layered, sophisticated, and memorable. NOBRAND approached this by blending modern minimalism with subtle cues drawn from the terroir and cultural nuances of Lebanon.
Logo Design and Brand Identity
The logo for Umami Wine was conceived as a delicate interplay of balance and elegance, using clean lines and thoughtfully crafted typography to communicate sophistication without excess. The mark embodies the notion of depth and savoriness, inviting curiosity while remaining instantly recognizable on shelf and in print.
Wine Bottle and Label Design
For the bottle, NOBRAND designed a label system that pairs tactile materials with understated graphic elements. A restrained color palette allowed the natural hues of the wine to stand out, while special finishes such as textured papers and foil accents gave each bottle a luxurious feel. The design also incorporated subtle Lebanese influences, creating a quiet nod to place that resonates with both local and international audiences.
Challenges and Solutions
A primary challenge was to ensure the brand stood out in a competitive market often saturated with traditional visual codes. NOBRAND solved this by crafting a design that is minimalist yet deeply expressive, steering away from clichés while still honoring the authenticity of Lebanese wine culture.
There was also the technical complexity of adapting the design to various print and production processes, ensuring consistency across different bottle shapes and vintages. This was managed through close collaboration with printing specialists and iterative sampling to perfect every detail.
Outcome
Umami Wine launched to immediate interest from distributors and connoisseurs, praised for its striking yet refined presentation. The brand identity and packaging not only positioned Umami Wine as a premium offering within Lebanon but also prepared it to enter broader Middle Eastern and European markets with confidence.
Conclusion
The work on Umami Wine demonstrates NOBRAND Agency’s commitment to creating brands that transcend trends and tell compelling stories through every detail. By designing a logo and bottle experience that embody the richness of umami, we helped establish Umami Wine as a distinctive new player in the world of fine wines, ready to captivate discerning palates both locally and internationally.
